About Rebecca

Rebecca is part of the leadership team for Elligo’s eStrategy Technology Leadership. A key influencer in the clinical research industry, Rebecca founded the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) where she spent 20 years leading the development of global clinical research data standards to streamline clinical research. She served as the president and CEO and had an integral role in the development of methods and processes to link research and health care. She has worked for the U.S. National Institutes of Health, academia, a global contract research organization and both U.S. and Japanese pharmaceutical companies. Rebecca holds doctorate in physiology and pharmacology from the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine

 

About her Talk, "Innovations in Clinical Research," Co-Presented by Jacylyn Bodmer

If you believe that the best innovation is happening now in drug development, think again. Clinical research is an area that is ripe for innovation. Increasing resource demands and complexity of research protocols continue to drive up the costs of medicines and medical treatments and negatively impact the rate at which research results can provide learning that informs clinical care decisions. The administrative burden of conducting research deters many clinicians from participating, thus their patients are not provided the opportunities of research as a care option.  This is the unfortunate state of clinical research, despite advances in technology and related innovations.
This presentation will:
  • Understand why clinical research is still demanding more resources and incurring burden on investigators
  • Explore recent innovations in research processes, designs, technology, data science and regulatory requirements
  • Build awareness around what is being done to implement available innovations to streamline research and accelerate learning from research to improve health
